S. Truett Cathy, founder and CEO of Chick-fil-A, was the keynote speaker at the 9th annual Branson Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, Thursday, May 6 at the Tri-Lakes Center in Branson. The event is held in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer. “We believe in prayer and enjoy gathering to pray and recognize our dependency on Jesus Christ,” said Bill Budnick, President of the Branson Christian Businessmen’s Committee (Branson CBMC).
Cathy who is credited with introducing the chicken sandwich to the quick service industry, built Chick-fil-A on the basis of biblical principals. He is also the author of three books including, Eat Mor Chickin: Inspire More People. “We are honored to have a man of his Christian character and business acumen speaking to our community,” said Budnick. “Cathy is well-known for the integrity he brings to the business world.”
Since 2004, someone from within the community has been chosen to receive the Don Gabriel Kingdom Builder Award at The Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast.
The award is given annually to a person who demonstrates a servant’s heart as a servant leader, who lives by Christian principles in all situations without compromise and who lives by a vision and mission which includes praying for and working for God’s perfect will to be accomplished in Ozark Mountain Country.
This year’s winner is Bob Burton. Past award recipient Larry Van Gilder said Burton led a dynamic and Christian life. Burton was selected as the winner just before he died. “He always made time for others who were hurting.” Van Gilder said. “He was the superhero of the community.”
Burton spent 30 years at Silver Dollar City and was the author of “Will the Real Christians Please Stand Up,” something Van Gilder said people should take away from the prayer breakfast today.
