Akers & Arney recently teamed up with Branson funnyman Jim Barber, co-owner of the Hamner Barber Variety Theater, to produce a new television commercial for the agency. Produced by The Vacation Channel and Jennifer McCullough Marketing and PR, the commercial features three of Jim’s lovable characters from his ever-popular variety show as they assume the roles of ‘insurance agent’ and ‘customers’. Stay tuned to see the spot airing soon on local cable and The Vacation Channel!

The 2010 Branson Area Business Expo ran from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, August 3rd, at Chateau on the Lake Resort and Spa. According to The Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, this was their largest business expo to date. The expo included booths from businesses throughout the area, as well as Akers & Arney.

S. Truett Cathy, founder and CEO of Chick-fil-A, was the keynote speaker at the 9th annual Branson Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, Thursday, May 6 at the Tri-Lakes Center in Branson. The event is held in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer. “We believe in prayer and enjoy gathering to pray and recognize our dependency on Jesus Christ,” said Bill Budnick, President of the Branson Christian Businessmen’s Committee (Branson CBMC).
Cathy who is credited with introducing the chicken sandwich to the quick service industry, built Chick-fil-A on the basis of biblical principals. He is also the author of three books including, Eat Mor Chickin: Inspire More People. “We are honored to have a man of his Christian character and business acumen speaking to our community,” said Budnick. “Cathy is well-known for the integrity he brings to the business world.”
Since 2004, someone from within the community has been chosen to receive the Don Gabriel Kingdom Builder Award at The Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast.
The award is given annually to a person who demonstrates a servant’s heart as a servant leader, who lives by Christian principles in all situations without compromise and who lives by a vision and mission which includes praying for and working for God’s perfect will to be accomplished in Ozark Mountain Country.
This year’s winner is Bob Burton. Past award recipient Larry Van Gilder said Burton led a dynamic and Christian life. Burton was selected as the winner just before he died. “He always made time for others who were hurting.” Van Gilder said. “He was the superhero of the community.”
Burton spent 30 years at Silver Dollar City and was the author of “Will the Real Christians Please Stand Up,” something Van Gilder said people should take away from the prayer breakfast today.

Akers & Arney participated in the Tri-Lakes Board of Realtors’ trade show March 25, 2010 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church parish center in Branson. Realtors had the opportunity to learn about Akers & Arney’s risk solutions from staff members Bill Budnick, Kim Hart and Samantha Williams who were on hand at the event.

The Branson Auto Museum and Time Out Sports Bar & Grill hosted a 1950s-era sock hop to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Ozarks on Saturday, April 10, 2010. The public was invited to go “Dancing With the Cars” and enjoy live music by Lain’z Hot Rod Gang and complimentary car hop cuisine catered by Fuddruckers. Prizes were awarded for best 1950s costume and for hula hooping.
Guests experienced the nostalgia of an old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll sock hop as they mix and mingle among more than 100 cool cars on display inside the Branson Auto Museum while supporting local after-school, summer and outreach programs provided by the Boys & Girls Club of the Ozarks.
“We are extremely grateful to everyone who donated their time and resources to make this event possible,” said Boys & Girls Club of the Ozarks Executive Director Autumn Page. “The proceeds raised at Dancing With the Cars will provide much needed funds for our local Clubs.”
Event sponsors to date include the TITANIC Museum Attraction, Ozark Mountain Bank, Branson Auto Museum, Time Out Sports Bar & Grill, Branson Bank, Tom Boyce Excavating, Inc., Akers & Arney, Great Southern Bank and others.

The Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Bureau 63rd annual Black Tie bash “A Golden Celebration” was just that as more than 500 members and guests attended the event at Chateau on the Lake Saturday, February 20th, 2010.
The annual event showcased members of the chamber who do more than is called for to better the community they live in and honors those who work hard to make sure the region is prosperous.
In this year’s ceremony, the Titanic Museum was honored with the award for Small Business of the Year and Tantone Industries was named Charity of the Year.
Also awarded during the event: Jonas Arjes won the Jim Langham Ambassador Award; Keith and Karen Jaspers received the Bob McDowell Humanitarian Award; Jack and Peter Herschend received the Special Recognition Award; and Glenna and Larry Frazier were honored with the Care for Kids Award.
Christopher Welch received the Community Spirit Award and was surprised with a visit from his parents; Fred Hansen, with Hansen’s Tree Service, was honored with the Beautification Award.

While recognizing the impact of small businesses in the Tri-Lakes Area, one longtime “staple of the community” was honored Tuesday as the 2003 Small Business of the Year by the Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.
Akers & Arney Insurance received the honor over nine other nominated businesses during the annual Small Business of the Year Award dinner held at Buckingham’s in Branson.
“I feel incredibly honored to have even been nominated for this award, let alone win it,” said Edd Akers, owner of the business. “Branson is a unique place and we definately have something special. If I didn’t believe that, I would not have kept this business here for all these years.”
Akers & Arney Insurance first opened its doors in 1953. The company’s stated management philosophy is “your insurance is only as good as your agent.”
The award dinner was sponsored by Ozark Mountain Bank and First Community Bank of Taney County.
